The mexican beach where you’ll find peace
You may have heard of the state of Quintana Roo, it is known worldwide for its beaches there, like Cancun and Playa del Carmen, while these two are great options if you’re looking for a beautiful beach, nightlife, hotels, shopping and eating out, there’s beach going south that’s way less crowded and with a laidback vibe.
Bacalar, Bakhalal in mayan, is located 40 km north of the state capital, Chetumal, this place is recognized by its lagoon, La Laguna de los Siete Colores, for its natural beauty. The small town of Bacalar is a beautiful paradise, filled with small, colorful houses, mostly from fishermen, you can appreciate the different tones of blue and green of the lagoon throughout the day.
One of the many things you can do here is explore the lagoon in different ways, snorkeling, scuba diving, on a small boat and looking at the different animals you’ll find is such a unique experience, you feel like you’re in a movie, exploring the wilderness of the lagoon in a boat, and who knows you might see a crocodile.
Bacalar was founded by the Mayans, and was invaded by pirates for its strategic location for comercial purposes, so needless to say it’s a place rich in culture.
One of the best things you’ll see here are the handmade colorful hammocks, and the knitted goodies they produce locally, visit Bacalar and you’ll be amazed.
