A day with Layla Xu Jing
When in San Miguel accompanying Layla Xu Jing during her entire trip in San Miguel, we stayed at the View Boutique Hotel, a beautiful picturesque hotel just outside of the city centre, which gives you a more private and quiet feeling, considering we visited during the day of the dead, which is a holiday in Mexico.
The Hotel organized a delicious mexican dinner with an excellent service, after that they took to the garden where they prepared a bonfire overlooking the beautiful valley, for the cherry on top there was a troubadour playing beautiful mexican music and whenever he could including ¨Layla¨ in his songs, our hotel hostess served us delicious tejuinos (mexican drink), it’s made of corn dough, piloncillo (similar to brown sugar) and it’s fermented for a few days, then it’s combined with chili and lime giving it an amazing bittersweet flavor which makes it very refreshing to drink.
The next day, we went to the Festival of the Calaca and to enjoy it the best way, Layla had her face painted as a Catrina by a makeup artist, she seemed very happy with the result. After that, we toured the streets of the centre of San Miguel, dancing and singing with hundreds of people in a vibe that none of us had been before, we got to the cemetery to live the entire experience and took a bunch of amazing pictures to remember the first time of Layla in Mexico and in such a special date for us, the day of the dead.
